Mission Statement

Dear Dancers, Families and Friends,

Welcome to The Ballet & Dance Center! Professional faculty, teaching the love of dance to all! We are a state of the art dance facility featuring Harlequin brand sprung dance floors, studio quality sound systems and a fantastic location on Erie Blvd. East (behind Men’s Wearhouse, near Barnes & Noble, across from Marshall’s Plaza).

We are very excited to offer the strongest dance curriculum in the area, which integrates all dance forms. An amazing team of faculty, with an extensive teaching background and years of dance expertise has been assembled. We have a professional training atmosphere that develops the entire student.

Each teacher believes passionately in treating every student with respect and dignity in a supportive, caring and personal environment. Every dancer is unique and we intend to bring each student to his or her fullest potential in these ways: physically, creatively and emotionally. We intend to build not only self esteem, but self awareness.

In the short year since the BDC has opened its doors to the dance community we have achieved many notable accomplishments. We have performed with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra’s Holiday Pops, at The Everson Museum’s summer picnic honoring SU’s Nancy Cantor, at the Carousel Mall and at Wellwood Middle School. Our dancers took the stage to share all they had learned in our Spring Performance aptly named A New Beginning, which was held at Eagle Hill Middle School.

We have hosted a Master class in Modern with the Shen Wei Dance Company, in Partnering and Jazz with Larry Crabtree and in Ballet and Pointe with Catherine Kingsley. Two of our dancers auditioned and were selected for NYSSSA, an Intensive Summer Dance program offered only to the best dancers in New York state. Our summer dance camps attracted over 50 new dancers.

Our Summer Dance Intensive offered our students a broad spectrum of dance styles, including Nia, Belly Dancing, African Dance, Hip Hop and Popping and Locking, along with seminars on Injury Prevention and Body Image. All were instructed by the area’s most professional staff including guest artists and experts in their field.

We will continue to offer our dancers opportunities of this caliber in the coming dance year.

We have been invited to perform with the SSO in October, are finalizing plans to participate in the Paul Taylor residency being hosted by SU this fall, are busy planning Master classes and are looking forward to offering a cultural dance day. We have learned how important it is for us to broaden our dance horizons and will continue with this philosophy throughout the coming dance year. Most importantly we will diligently pursue our mission to develop not only wonderful dancers, but extraordinary people.

We will continue to teach the love of dance to all! Our youth classes are divided into three divisions, general, core and open. The General Division is designed for young dancers just beginning their training. The Core Division is for the serious dancer who decides to make more of a commitment to his or her dance training. The Open Division accommodates dancers who still want professional training, but a lighter schedule. Our Dance for Fitness Division for adults offers Body conditioning through Dance, Ballet, Zumba and Stott Pilates. No experience is necessary! Come try our unique and fun approach to exercise and be sure to leave your inhibitions aside.

We look forward to dancing with you soon!
